UK-based Expodata have released a new improved version of Sentry, the tester and data logger that verifies the integrity of electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist straps, foot straps and footwear in working environments where ESD must be critically guarded against.

The ESD Problem

Studies of the failure mechanism in production and test indicate that ESD causes more than 25% of all failures in integrated circuits. To make this problem worse some of the new micro-electronic devices can be damaged by potentials of less than 100 volts. The cost to the industry from static damage is estimated to be tens of millions of pounds, which can be alleviated using a device such as Sentry.

The Sentry Solution

More than just a tester, the new Sentry is a powerful, network-capable measurement system with built-in data logging, allowing easy compliance with ISO 9000.

Offering improved communications, faster operation, rugged construction, an LCD display, a powerful software analysis and configuration tool, and tests than can be configured for individual operators, Sentry offers a new concept in the avoidance of component damage from ESD.

Sentry provides an effective method of verifying all personnel entering static sensitive areas in a single operation replacing inefficient and expensive paper-based systems, which offer limited checking.

System Overview

Sentry is a wall-mounted unit that automatically logs measured values together with time and date against the particular operator's ID and pass/fail result, providing an automatic audit trail for easy compliance with ISO9000.

Sentry includes easy-to-use Observer software that provides monitoring and control of one or more Sentry units, a selection of programmable limits, test configurations, analysis and tabulation of results, downloads to standard spreadsheets and a great deal more.
